Aeroplan Tangerine Community Days
Aeroplan also encourages participation in this initiative by organizing group activities such as: planting trees, wrapping presents, preparing food hampers for families in need and serving food at local shelters. This winter, the Aeroplan Tangerine Community Days were dedicated to helping those in need. Here are a few things we did in our respective Communities across the country:
More than 20 employees from the Bay Street office in Toronto got together at the Birchmount Bluffs Neighbourhood Centre to create gift baskets containing toys, books and food coupons, to help over 400 families in need.
The Marketing Team in Montreal worked on various initiatives. The entire marketing team “adopted” a family; this initiative supports a family during a tough time. The team raised money to buy toys and grocery store gift cards and non-perishable food! The family was also in need of a computer, so the team was able to purchase a laptop for the family. It’s something the marketing team has done for the last three years and we’re all very proud of this initiative.
Other employees in the Marketing team volunteered their time at the NDG Food Bank in Notre de Dame de Grâce a suburb of Montreal. The NDG Food Bank is a non-profit organization that has been serving the community since 1986. They helped the NDG Food Bank sort through tons of food.
Another great initiative that some of our Marketing employees took part in was gift wrapping. The Auxiliary of the Montreal Children’s Hospital Gift Wrap fundraiser organizes volunteers to assist shoppers wrap their gifts – all proceeds go directly to purchase medical equipment for the MCH. For the second year in a row, Aeroplan was set up under the Simon’s department store.
The People & Culture and Communications Teams worked at the YMCA in Notre de Dame de Grâce on Friday, December 7th where they wrapped gifts for the kids and volunteers. They also sorted out children’s books for the library/CPE.
Our Contact Centre teams in Montreal and Vancouver did various activities including volunteering at food banks, the Salvation Army and at the SPCA, in addition many participated in various initiatives organized by their religious communities.
Tangerine Community Days are very important to all of us at Aeroplan and we’re happy to help those less fortunate around the holidays and throughout the year!

As part of the 2012 Aeroplan Match Days, Aeroplan will match all donated Miles to War Child on September 21st, on a 1 for 1 basis up to 500,000 Aeroplan Miles. Whether used to visit schools that are being rebuilt in war-torn Democratic Republic of Congo, War Child’s programs that help lift families out of poverty in Afghanistan, or children who are learning about their rights in Uganda, these miles go a long way to supporting children and their families in some of the most devastated regions around the world. “We have been overwhelmed by the generosity our members have shown during our Mile Matching Days over the last couple of years,” said geneviève bich, Vice President, People and Culture in Canada, Aimia. “In 2011, a total of more than 10.9 million miles were donated to our Beyond Miles partners on Miles Matching Days. We hope our members continue to support the incredible work our charitable partners do each and every day and donate miles to them.”
Since the program was launched in 2006, more than 237 million Aeroplan Miles have been donated by members and on September 21st, War Child supporters will have the opportunity to double their mile donations, and investment for a world where no child knows war.
